Chapter 29 – Bear-san, Mission Accomplished

Author’s Note: Each chapter is written with about 2000-3000 words, but it’s unexpectedly short when I read it.
But, it takes over five sheets of the 400-character manuscript paper!

「Yuna-san, is an area that’s about this big okay?」

As expected of a lord’s garden.
It was very spacious.
I was told that, if needed, we could also use the soldiers’ practice area.
Right now, there’s nobody there.

「Well then, I’m going to summon them now. Come out! Swaying Bear! Hugging Bear!」

Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear came out from the Bear Hands.
The two of them stood up.

「Swaying Bear, Hugging Bear, come here.」

The two bears came running up to me happily.
Their large size scared me at first, but now they’re just cute.
The people behind me, on the other hand, were surprised and raised a fuss.

「It’s a bear! It’s a bear-san! Yuna-san, is it okay if I touch them?!」

「Lady Noire, it’s dangerous! Please fall back!」

「It’s fine. If you don’t hurt them, they won’t do anything.」

「Please say something as well, Cliff-sama!」

「Well, it’ll be okay, I think.」

「Cliff-sama!」

After being told that “It can’t be helped,” by her master, Cliff, the maid-san stopped trying to detain her.
Noa, who had obtained freedom, slowly came closer to the bears.

「Is it really okay for me to touch them?」

「It’s fine. Try touching them softly.」

Noa gently touched Swaying Bear.
She pet Hugging Bear with her other hand.
The two bears narrowed their eyes in apparent pleasure.

「It’s very warm. It’s also soft.」

「Want to try riding one?」

「Is it okay?」

「Hugging Bear, is it okay?」

Instead of answering, Hugging Bear lowered its waist to make it easier to get on.

「You won’t fall, so don’t worry.」

I lent a hand and gave her a lift onto its back.
Hugging Bear slowly stood up.

「Waa, it’s high.」

Noa seemed happy on top of Hugging Bear.

「Yuna-san, is it okay to take a walk? Just around the house is fine!」

「That’s fine.」

Hugging Bear slowly walked away.

「N-Noire-sama!」

Maid-san panicked and ran after Hugging Bear.

「Sorry, but can I touch it too?」

Cliff came over while looking embarrassed.

「It’s fine, but…」

When I gave permission, he touched Swaying Bear.

「Ooo, the fur is nice. It also feels good to touch.」

While touching Swaying Bear, Cliff was also glancing at its back.

「Do you want to get on?」

「Is it okay?!」

「The same as Noa, just one lap around the house.」

「Ah, thank you.」

After Cliff got on Swaying Bear, he went off running after Noa.
A couple of minutes later, the two returned side-by-side.

「Yuna-san, thank you very much. It was fun.」

「Ah, you also let me have a very valuable experience today.」

A very tired looking maid-san appeared behind the bears.
She looked exhausted.
It wasn’t my fault, so I didn’t worry about it.

「Well then, I’ll be returning to the house, so I’ll leave Noa to you, Yuna. Please come to me when you plan on leaving.」

Cliff went back inside the house.
Noa really liked riding on top of Hugging Bear and didn’t come down.

「It’s comfortable.」

She was sprawled on top of Hugging Bear.
For a while, she patted Hugging Bear while sprawled on its back, but soon stopped.
When I noticed it had become quiet and took a glance, she was breathing calmly and sleeping quietly.
I told Hugging Bear to walk slowly as we moved under a tree.
As expected, falling asleep while sunbathing wasn’t an option.
Maid-san was watching anxiously.

「It’s fine. Let’s let her sleep. Is there possibly something we can cover her with? Since it would be a problem if she catches a cold.」

When I said that, maid-san quickly went back inside the house and came back carrying something that looked like a blanket.
However, because Hugging Bear was too tall, she couldn’t place the blanket on Noa.

「Please lend a hand, Swaying Bear.」

Swaying Bear lifted the maid-san with both hands.
The maid-san obediently allowed herself to be lifted, and covered Noa with the blanket.

「Thank you very much, Swaying Bear-sama.」

Apparently, Maid-san was no longer afraid of Swaying Bear.
I took out a small barrel and two wooden cups from the Bear Box.
The barrel contained juice from an oren fruit, and it had a flavor that was similar to orange juice.
I poured ice and oren juice into a cup, and handed it to the maid-san.
Maid-san recieved the oren juice and drank it.

「Delicious.」

「Good to hear.」

「Thank you very much. It’s cold and delicious.」

「There’s enough for a second helping, so drink as much as you want.」

「Even so, they’re rather obedient.」

We watched Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear.

「Well, it’s because they’re summoned beasts. They are different from wild bears, you know.」

「It seems so. The lady also seemed to be having fun, so thank you very much.」

「It’s not necessary to thank me, since it’s my job.」

Maid-san’s name was Amelia-san.
I heard that she had been employed at this mansion for five years.
She seemed to be an important existence, since she had been looking after Noa since Noa was five years old.
Therefore, she asked me not to worry her too much.
Even so, she thanked me for letting Noa have some fun.
While I was talking with Amelia, Noa, who was sleeping on top of Hugging Bear, began to fidget and move around.

「Good morning. You woke up.」

「Erm, where am I?」

「On top of Hugging Bear. You fell asleep.」

「Oh, that’s right. Hugging Bear was so comfortable that I fell asleep.」

「If you sleep outside for too long, you might catch a cold, so let’s go inside.」

Noa didn’t want to separate from the bears, but at this rate, there would be no end to this, so I sent Hugging Bear a signal.

「Hugging Bear is also tired, so won’t you let them rest?」

When I said so, Hugging Bear

「Kuu~」

…made a small cry and a sleepy gesture.

「That’s right, Noire-sama. Hugging Bear-sama kept you from falling while you slept. Please let Hugging Bear-sama rest as well.」

「Un, I understand. Sorry, Hugging Bear.」

Noa got down from Hugging Bear and gently patted its head.

「Ok then, I’m letting them rest.」

「Let’s play again sometime, Hugging Bear, Swaying Bear.」

I cancelled the summoning, and Hugging Bear and Swaying Bear went back into my hands.

「Well now, let us return to Noa’s room.」

「I’m headed to where Cliff-san is.」

「Eh, Yuna-san, could it be that you’re leaving already?」

「My job here is already finished.」

I’ve put up with Noa’s selfishness for a while already, this much work should be enough.

「Come on, let’s eat dinner together!」

Noa grabbed onto the Bear Hand.
I tried to decline, but I was pulled into the house by the hand.
Cliff appeared right then and it became a talk about dinner.
In the end, because Cliff also invited me, it was decided that I would be staying for dinner.
I ate dinner. When I was leaving, they asked me to stop by next time. However, I courteously refused and returned to the Bear House.

「By all means, please come again!」

Noa sent me off at the gate with that request.

This is so damn funny I can’t believe I missed it the first time I read this! Also I am ill with Still’s disease and my meds got mixed up in part due to the whole damn’d hydroxychloroquine-hoarding situation, so I’m extra miserable but this made me laugh so hard! You have NO idea, person from the past, how much I needed this!

  1. yuna is only giving me better and better opinion of her
99% of the transported japance mcs know about those fantasy worlds and nobles and they all nearly become their slaves and do thousand things for them
but she just plain declined didnt give a shit and wouldnt even buckle under actions of a cute young girl
kumachan still the best japanese protagonist(<<<this a girl god damn it)

    1. Some of those MCs have a reason to comply with those nobles. Some reasons are good and passable, others are just straight up lame.

For example Shin from The New Gate is excused. He doesnt know who his enemies are, how powerful they are and what the new limits are. +He wants to stay incognito.

Death March Satou. Pretty much same reason, but he is just a lot more OP and resourceful. Tho he could make another persona and force them a good position and sweep the higher society a little bit clean. Srly, why not to take the shorter route instead of the troublesome ones? -.-

Wend from Hachinan tte. He is pretty oblivious to thing so it cant be helped…

Btw for some reason i cant recall the stories where the MCs are “obeying” the nobles or influential peoples. Could mention some of them for me?

      1. in “nearly” every transported to another world japanese story
the male protagonists are being milked more than cows
i could now search those stories and death march is pretty much one of them
every time someone asked him to do something he did
everytime someone tells him not do anything he doesnt do that then
that mc is being controlled by his loli harem and does everything everyone tells him(well its still one of most boring stories to have ever been translated even without that<<nothing happened in 10 volumes not even 1 major enemy or 1 major point of the plot those were over 250chapters i think, just potentional demon lord information, potentional reincarnated people and meh)
i myself just dont like those stories anymore
and am happy that stories like kumachans here are being translated
those stories deserve more atenttion than those
shounen genre isnt just doing it anymore

        1. Are you sure you read the story, and aren’t just repeating someone else’ review? I ask because I have read 12 volumes of Death March and there are plenty of battles, Dragon God in the first chapter and first demon in like chapter 4, since then he has battled a dragon, 3 major demon lords, and a whole fleet of giant sky fish. Ground battles, aerial battles, battles in space, some were sword battles, magic battles, and strategy battles; there was even a dinosaur vs. tank battle. I think most of the confusion is in labeling it a shounen, the label doesn’t fit when he has enough power to just be a tourist, and that’s what the story is. He hasn’t bowed to any nobles either, he treats all nobles including royalty like company executives or customers, he will sell them things, give them gifts as a greeting, but he isn’t going to quit his job to work for any of them regardless of the benefit package they offer(he has turned down numerous offers, to be a guard, a chef, magic instructor, and even official hero).

            1. Oh, if that’s the case, then the WN has it way over the anime. Though I liked the anime, it bugged me that while Satou genuinely cared for all the girls he got mixed up with, he seemingly gave no thought to the reality that he had no idea just how he came to that world (and logically couldn’t guarantee that he wouldn’t just suddenly wake up back on earth). So I think providing for a number of dependents (particularly when someone seeking Satou’s help in getting released from his life of villainy and finding peace with his true love in the afterlife, also warned him that a Japanese girl reborn from earth was in danger of heading down the same ruinous path as he) should have had Satou thinking about securing his family’s future in case he suddenly vanished. I don’t think letting a soldier quit her job so she can start a courtship with you, is a good idea either, at least without being honest with her about where you really came from.

        2. There is nothing wrong to pamper them. They hav after all, gone wrong cruel experiences. Just think of it as a dotting father, but regarding the nobles – yes, it is annoying as **** sometimes.

For example that orb, why dont you just steal it and leave a damn note -.- Just leave something more or of equal value….

Him making himself so noticeable, will place more restrictons than benefits from those connections -.-

Being nice to lolis because you are pretty much a god is bad now? Sure, nobles etc in these stories try to take advantage of the protagonists, but that is only because they are usually a little bit more savvy, wiser and smarter than other characters. The protagonist in most of these stories could pretty much always crush any and all armies or monsters they come across… which would be the alternative… Something we have actually seen in garbage trash stories such as Overlord, Re:monster and other stories of a similar nature where the author is catering towards a certain type of reader that enjoys seeing characters that are written to be a little annoying, get brutally raped and eaten alive.

I mean stories such as Deathmarch where the protagonist even outright states that he does what he does the way he does it because the alternative would be BORING…

And yes Overlord is boring trash…

Even if at times the protagonist does such things as not taking the lordship over a region, it is simply because at heart he doesn’t want to do those things.

Yuna, as selfish and rude as she is, does the same thing. She lives life the way she feels like it. She’s a lazy selfish brat that is only able to live life the way she wants to because the god they summoned her has decided it will be this way).

        1. Yeah, that’s a pretty good example, he fell in with the royal family pretty quickly. What are some other good ones, does Realist count, even though he becomes King, the job was thrust on him by royalty? What about Moon-led Journey, not the MC, but there are two examples of a Japanese easily influenced by the native nobles? Everybody in Arifureta was manipulated by authority figures, til the MC’s rebirth even him. Strategy to Become Good at Magic, she was forced to babysit a moron by the threat of human nobility…I can’t think of any others I actually read…

          1. At least in Strategy to Become Good at Magic she’s indignant about it and only does it because she knows she isn’t at a level of power to actually oppose them due to it being far too troublesome if she wanted to go explore the world later rather than staying in the forest for all eternity. She’s not really mindlessly obeying, but actually weighing and understanding the situation as best as she can.

The one where the MC could not talk his way out of marrying a princess or six? It’s a harem story, there was no chance of him talking his way out of it.

  2. So disappointed

    Plot are very interested.

Story should be kind of warm/cutie/comedy but disappointed, MC are selfish and rude also arogan….

Author are you understand? She wear kuma-bear why you made her to that kind of way? I really not get it.

You got so lucky that Anime team have changed MC personal character. you should thank and appreciate them.
